Failed your smog check at our Golden Hill station? Within 30 calendar days you get one $30 smog retest for the same vehicle: $21.75 for the test, plus the $8.25 state certificate if it passes. Bring the repaired car to 2484 F St, Suite A, any day but Sunday, or book a time online.
$30 smog retest terms. One discounted retest for the same vehicle at the same station within 30 calendar days of the original paid, failed inspection. The retest is $21.75; if the vehicle passes, the $8.25 state certificate brings the total to $30. If it fails again, the retest is $21.75. A completed inspection that fails because readiness monitors are not ready counts as the retest. An inspection we abort costs nothing and does not use the retest; the 30-day window still applies. Additional retests and returns after 30 days are charged at posted regular prices. Repairs are not included.

The failed test's vehicle inspection report
Your repair invoice
Your DMV renewal notice or the documents DMV sent you

What to expect
After check-in, we review the earlier result and give you a written estimate for the retest. Nothing starts until you approve it.
If the battery was disconnected or replaced, or the trouble codes were cleared, the car's readiness monitors start over. In that case we'll let you know the car isn't ready yet. A week or two of normal driving usually takes care of it.
When it's ready, we run the inspection your model year requires and give you an updated vehicle inspection report.
If the car fails the retest
We do smog checks but not emissions repairs, so there's nothing to sell you. We'll just explain the new report clearly. Emissions repairs are done at a test-and-repair or repair-only station of your choice. Find a licensed repair station with BAR's Auto Shop Locator. If the car fails the discounted retest, that retest is $21.75; additional retests are charged at posted regular prices.
If the car is still under warranty, read the owner's manual. Some emissions repairs may be covered by your manufacturer's warranty.

What does a smog retest cost in San Diego?

I failed at another station. Can I retest here?
We can inspect it, but the $30 smog retest covers only a car that failed its paid inspection at this station. A car that failed elsewhere pays our regular price, which is on the coupon page.
Is a STAR station required for my retest?
Your DMV renewal notice decides that. Either way, we are STAR certified.
The shop just replaced my battery. Can I retest now?
Give it a week or two of normal driving first so the readiness monitors can reset. A completed inspection that fails because the monitors aren't ready counts as your retest.
Are you open Sundays?
No. We're open Monday–Friday 9 AM–5 PM and Saturday 9 AM–4 PM.

We're closed Sundays. Holiday hours are kept current on our Google Business Profile. The waiting room has Wi-Fi, and we speak Spanish (se habla español). Cash, all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay all work.
Most retest visits come from Golden Hill, Logan Heights, Barrio Logan and South Park.
